Bangladesh will lock horns with Sri Lanka in their fourth World Cup match on June 11 at the Bristol. It’s a must-win game for Bangladesh as they lost back to back matches against New Zealand and England, on the other hand, Sri Lanka is also struggling in this World Cup as they just accumulated 3 points so far with a win against Afghanistan and got a point against Pakistan after the match was washed out.

Once used to beat Bangladesh with quite ease, Sri Lanka’s outright domination was over after 2015.

Bangladesh are currently ranked 7 while Sri Lanka sit at 9th position in the ICC ODI rankings.

Now let’s look at some of the interesting stats between these two sides:

1.       Last three Matches: Bangladesh have won their last three matches against Sri Lanka. Two of them were T20 internationals in the Nidahas trophy and one was in the 2018-2019 Asia Cup. Bangladesh won by 5 wickets and 2 wickets respectively in the last two matches and won by 137 runs in the Asia Cup.

2.       Total Matches: If you look at the stats of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh is far behind in it. They have played a total of 45 ODI matches so far and Sri Lanka won 36 of those and Bangladesh was victorious in just 7 of those matches.  But they are equal in terms of win percentage in ODI’s from 2017, as they have played 6 matches in this period and both have won 3 matches each.

3.       In World Cup:  Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have faced each other three times in the World Cup and Bangladesh have lost all three of the matches. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka faced each other first in the 2003 World Cup, in that match Sri Lanka won by 10 wickets and Chaminda Vas picked up 6 wickets in that match with a hattrick in his first over. Bangladesh met Sri Lanka once again in the 2007 World Cup, in that match Bangladesh once again suffered a heavy defeat of 198 runs.  Bangladesh faced Sri Lanka once again in the 2015 World Cup, in that match Bangladesh once again withered a heavy defeat of 92 runs.
