Mohammedan awarded points after Brothers refuses to play

Mohammedan Sporting Club was awarded full two points in their match against Brothers Union in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) after the latter refused to play the game at BSKP-4 ground. With the victory Mohammedan ended their three-match losing streak.
Mohammedan however compiled a gigantic 316-9 in 50 overs with Irfan Shukkur making 92, after which the rain intervened. As the rain stopped, the umpires wait for ground to be dried up. They then inspected the ground and pitch at 3.49 PM and announced that the game will start at 4.06 PM and it will be a 20-over affair.
As per the D/L method Brothers’ target was set for 174 in 20 overs.
Brothers however demanded to reschedule the game to the next day, which is kept as reserve day, claiming that the outfield of the ground is wet, in which cricket is not possible. But the umpires refused to accept that wet outfield issue.
They waited for Brothers to enter into the ground for 10 minutes. Since they didn’t come to play, they awarded Mohammedan the game.
“After inspecting the ground, umpires announced that the game will start at 4.06 PM and it will be 20-over affair. And umpires entered into the ground at right time but Brothers didn’t come. Their demand was that the outfield is wet,” Match referee Akhter Ahmed Shipar said here today.
“A one side pitch was wet but that place was such that the ball normally doesn’t go there and any fielder also doesn’t stand there. That’s why we thought that it was possible to play. Therefore umpires waited for Brothers to come. Since they didn’t come, Mohammedan was announced winner in line with the rule of ‘refused to play’,” he added.
