Cricket operations chairman Akram Khan insisted that the players could have been gainer had the head coach Steve Rhodes and other backroom staffs were available during the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), given that the coveted league turned out to be most competitive with several players making their present felt by some strong performances.

Rhodes along with other coaching staff were given leave, considering they will have a hectic schedule since the tri-nation series Ireland and ICC Cricket World Cup is knocking at the door.

‘’They need to give their family time since the hectic schedule is coming up for them,’’ Akram Khan, the chief of cricket BCB Cricket Operations said here today.

“Because we have preparation camp and the Ireland series and we hope that they can see the players at that point of time,’’ he said.

“But if they were available in the league it could have been better for some of our players because they could have got their suggestion,’’ he insisted.

Bangladesh’s chief selector Minhajul Abedin believes the ongoing DPL is certainly turning out to be quite competitive.

His assumption cannot be turned down as most of the matches are seen to be going down the wire.

‘’This DPL is certainly very competitive. We have seen some closely contested matches in the league,’’ Minhajul told reporters today.

‘’In BPL we see only few leading cricketers but in DPL the platform is certainly bigger,’’ he said.

BPL surely does not provide an opportunity to see the growth of domestic cricketers in wider scale as the franchise is often seen decorating their playing XI with four foreign cricketers, cricket experts earlier said.

Not only does the DPL remains the major source of income for most of the leading cricketers but it is also a major platform for the upcoming cricketers as well.

All the failure in the just concluded New Zealand tour seemed to have taken a back seat due to the unexpected Christchurch terror incident but it cannot take away the fact that Tigers were simply ousted by Kiwis in both the ODI’s and in the opening two Test matches.

While some of the places in the national team are more or less confirmed there are certain places that still need to be filled with best possible candidates. And several players performed heavily to make them a candidate for those places.

Selector Habibul Bashar also feels that the presence of national head coach could have made an impact in the league.

‘Naturally their presence could have a big impact as it would have helped them prepare better,’’ said Habibul.
