BCB gets tough on security

The Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Sunday that they are taking extensive measures to make sure that security is well covered during their upcoming tours.
BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed Cricfrenzy that they have already asked for a comprehensive security plan from Ireland Cricket for the upcoming tri-nation and after receiving it will review it thoroughly before giving the green signal.
Security became a major issue for BCB since players from the Bangladesh team narrowly escaped a shooting incident at the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch before they safely made it back to their hotel. The New Zealand Cricket Board and Bangladesh Cricket Board have decided to cancel the third Test to be played at the Hagley Oval as a result.
Bangladesh team arrived home immediately following the shootout in Christchurch, which killed 49 people and injured several others.
It was learnt that host board used to provide their security plan in their MOU earlier but since the terror attack in New Zealand BCB opted to have a comprehensive security plan instead of the way they used to handle it earlier.
‘’We have asked for a comprehensive security plan from Ireland and after receiving it will assess it further and if we feel we need something we will ask them accordingly,’’ Nizamuddin told Cricfrenzy on Sunday.
‘’What happened in New Zealand was very unfortunate but at the same time we firmly believe that the host nations are certainly in the best place to say what kind of security measures need to be taken,’’ he said.
Bangladesh National Cricket Team will take on West Indies and Ireland in a tri-nation series starting from May 5 at Ireland as part of their practice campaign ahead of their ICC World Cup 2019 assignments.
Ireland will host West Indies and Bangladesh for an ODI tri-series in the first half of May, with a double round-robin phase followed by a final. The tri-series will begin on May 5, with Ireland facing West Indies, and conclude with the final on May 17. All the matches will take place in Dublin, at Castle Avenue, Clontarf and The Village, Malahide.
Meanwhile, BCB chief executive also informed that BCB will seek the co-operation of ICC security team during the time they stay in England before starting their World Cup campaign.
‘’We are expected to seek assistance from the ICC security group during the five or six days that we will stay in England ahead of the World Cup,’’ said Nizamuddin.
‘’We will pay them for their services,’’ he said.
‘’During the World Cup ICC security group will take care of all the teams and they are always keeping us updated about the security measures that will be in place for the global tournament,’’ he said.
