Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan’s (BKSP) chance to make it the last four in the DPL T20 cricket league looked diminished after they tasted a 27-run defeat to Gazi Group Cricketers on Tuesday at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.
BKSP which stunned Prime Doleshwar in the first match couldn’t make any resistance in the face of some calculative cricket from Gazi Group who registered their first victory in the first match. BKSP are now looking to the match between Gazi and Doleshwar, a match which will decide who will be the group champion to seal the semi-final spot.
The match was turned to a 10-over affair after the overnight rain hampered the proceeding of the game. Gazi Group, being sent to bat first, piled up a staggering 123 for four in 10 overs. In reply, the BKSP was restricted to 96 for four.

Opener Rony Talukdar was chief-destroyer, blasting a 16 ball-41 which included two fours and four sixes. He was ably supported by his fellow opener Waliul Karim’s 18 ball-25 and the duo hammered 62 runs in just five overs to help the side gain the momentum. Sajjadul Haque was the other notable contributor with 20 off just 8.
Naushad Iqbal of BKSP was the pick of the bowler for his side, grabbing three for 20 in two overs. In the wake of the massive target, BKSP’s top order fumbled which forced them reduced to six for three in third over. They never recovered from the collapse despite the utmost endeavour from Akbar Ali and Aminul Islam. While Akbar struck 43 off just 20, Aminul made 34 off 24.
Abu Haider Rony, the pacer of Gazi Group was instrumental in BKSP’s top order collapse, claiming two four two in two overs with a maiden.
In the day’s other match at this venue, Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Sangstha was out of the race after Uttara Sporting Club beat them by six wickets in the D/L method in another rain-curtailed game. This was Khelghar’s second successive defeat and Uttara’s first win in the first match. Uttara’s match against Sheikh Jamal now turned out to be virtual quarterfinal as the winner of the match will seal the semi-final deal.
However, in the game that was made to the 17-over affair, Khelaghar, elected to bat first, were held back to 109 for seven, a target which Uttara gunned down in 15.5 overs, losing four wickets.
Opener Tanzid Hasan scripted the facile victory for the side, hitting an unbeaten 72 off 57, an innings studded by five fours and three sixes. He drove the side to the victory amid the failure of other batsmen in the top of the order. Later he got support from Minhaj Khan who made run-a-ball-28.
Robiul Haque was the most successful bowler for Khelaghar with three four 28 but didn’t get enough support from other bowlers to keep the side alive.
