Bangladesh’s ODI’s captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza rues for the top order debacle that he believed was largely responsible for the outcome of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand as they were clearly swept away by the host in the three-match series.

Bangladesh aimed to come up with something different after losing the first two ODIs by big margins but it went in vain as they lost sight of sticking to the basics in order to execute a different plan in the series concluding last ODI and ended up losing by 88 runs.

“We had lost two or three wickets too early and it is hard to recover from that point,” Mashrafe said in a disappointing tone. “I think we tried to do something different. It’s normal for there to be bounce and swing in these wickets but we could not stick to the basics,” he said.

Tigers will be eyeing to form their World Cup squad after the ODI series while they are believed to have a dress rehearsal in the tri-nation ahead of the global tournament.

The conditions in Ireland and the World Cup in England could be quite similar to what they faced in New Zealand and according to the skipper, his teammates need to find out a way to earn success in similar condition that is expected to be in place during the tour of Ireland as well as in England thereafter.

“There are two months left before the next tournament. Conditions will be similar in Ireland and we have to find a way. Last year there were grassy wickets and the conditions there do not favour us and we have to figure out how we will score runs there. Not to give away too many wickets early since batting becomes easier later on,” he added.
