Apart from an uncharacteristic half-century, Chris Gayle has no worth contribution in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), much to the disappointment of his fans around the world.

A man who had hit the highest centuries (5) and highest sixes (107) in BPL history, it is really a shocker. But if anyone closely follows Chris Gayle-trend in the last three or four years in the domestic tournaments around the world, they won’t be surprised to that extent.

Gayle is now actually a slow-starter and as it has been the trend, he made it up during the big stages of the tournament. The same thing was happened in the last BPL also in which he had two struggling half-centuries in the group stages. But during the play-off matches suddenly all has been changed. Gayle showed his supreme power and proved the notion why he is called a ‘Universe Boss’ when it comes to domestic T20 tournament.

Gayle hit a century in the first eliminator game to help Rangpur qualify to the Qualifier-2. Even though he couldn’t make runs in that match, he again made it up in the final against mighty Dhaka Dynamites who was heavily favourite to clinch the trophy.

But a Gayle-storm, a 66 ball-146 runs, clattered with record breaking 18 sixes just ruined Dhaka Dynamites’ all hopes of clinching the trophy even before they came to chase Rangpur’s mammoth total. Gayle’s 146 in that match still remains the highest score in any kind of T20’s final match.

Like the last edition of BPL, Gayle remains a shadow of himself as the matches of the group phase are going on. But his teammate AB de Villiers, who was also his long term teammate in IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru knows very well when the lions inside Gayle will wake up.

Terming him the absolute legend of the game, Villiers said: “He is going to score a big hundred in some stage. It matters most in semifinals, finals. Not upset at all about Chris. He is still an absolute legend of the game. I am expecting a hundred very soon. So bowlers, watch out.”

Indeed he knows the Gayle’s trend.
