The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) observed just one Super Over in in its history and that too in this ongoing edition of the tournament. The incident happened in the match between Khulna Titans and Chittagong Vikings but in that Super Over both team put faith on their overseas players rather than the Bangladeshi players.

Bangladesh head coach Steve Rhodes was not quite happy with that and disclosed that he would like to see local cricketers are given preferences in Super Over as that would help them get stronger to handle such situation at later part in international cricket.

‘’One of the changes I would love to happen is that each team, the Super Over has to be bowled by a Bangladeshi. That would make it very interesting because it would be a major factor regarding the very start of the tournament; who you select in your squad, because the likes of a Taskin, a Rony or a Fizz -- people who can bowl that last over – then they will be getting picked and being played all the time because they will be able to bowl that Super Over for you,’’ Rhodes said on Friday.

‘’And also, one batsman – one of the openers – has to be a Bangladeshi so that they get the experience of playing in the Super Over. A little bit different, bit left-field, but you can see my reasoning is that I am desperate for Bangladeshi players to experience all aspects of cricket and Super Overs are here to stay I feel, they are very exciting,’’ he added,” he added.

Rhodes however satisfied the way Bangladeshi players performing in the tournament as he heaped praise on the knock of Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das. However he insisted that he would love to see some more match defining performances from the local players.

“This is really my first chance to get a look at a T20 programme from up high and I think it’s been an exciting tournament so far. I think there’s been some good cricket, sometimes some good wickets that help good wickets that help good cricket, sometimes some not so good which makes for very interesting, tight games. But overall it’s been an exciting tournament so far,” he said.

“Regarding our own players I think that it’s been a bit up and down. Some of them have played really well; I think some of the bowlers have done especially well – the likes of Taskin, Shafiul has done well and several others. The spinners have all done well at times and it shows our depth of spin, what we’ve got.”

“The batsmen at times has done well. Liton the other day played a very special knock and Mushfiqur in a wonderful chase at Mirpur. It’s not always been easy for the local boys because sometimes they don’t quite get the chances because there’s a lot of international stars here. But the ones that have played, I think in the second half of the tournament I expect more performances, which should be really, really good. “
