Robbie Frylinck did every possible thing with bat and bowl in a match that went right down the wire and guided Chittagong Vikings to win by Super Over against Khulna Titans on Saturday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

In doing so, he made his presence obvious intriguing way for his stellar effort in the first Super Over of the Bangladesh Premier League’s (BPL) entire history.

With the match ended in a tie after both side restricted to 151 in 20 overs allocation, vastly for Frylinck’s heroic, Chittagong Vikings managed to score 11 in the Super Over—a one over eliminator game. In adrenaline-pumping moment,  Frylinck propped up with bowling to defend the score, restricting Khulna Titans to 10 and thereby gave the side a second victory in the third match. And effectively he kept Khulna who played four matches so far, winless in the tournament.

Chittagong Vikings looked to win it with ease when Yasir Ali and Mushfiqur Rahim were batting with assured hand before Khulna bowlers came back in style to dismiss Yasir and Sikandar Raza in quick succession.

Mushfiqur was still there to give the side hopes but he perished to loose shot, leaving the side in a precarious 121 for six.

Pakistan’s Junaid Khan, playing his first BPL game this season, bowled an excellent 19th over to Robbie Frylinck, conceding just 4 runs and leaving Chittagong needing 19 off the last over.

Keeping the trust on Ariful Haque’s slower, Mahmudullah handed him to defend the total which was by any means a tough job in slow Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium wicket.

Ariful was hit for six by youngster Nayeem  Hasan in the second delivery of the over after he had missed the first one.  Nayeem went for the big one again and was holed out as it was left to Frylinck, who had crossed over to the other end, to win the match.

Frylinck proceeded to dispatch the fourth delivery over the bowler’s head for six before he punished a poor waist-high full toss, one that could easily have been called a no-ball, for six over square leg fence.

But there was more drama with Chittagong requiring 1 off 1 as Frylinck then swatted and missed the last ball and was run out on 13 ball-23 to leave the game in the mercy of a super over.

Frylinck also was handy in bowling with one for 32 runs in four overs and his only wicket was Junaid Siddique who timed well in batting to give the side a rapid start.

Another Khulna opener Paul Striling was also in aggressive mood but once the openers were departed, playing one shot too many,  Dawid Malan (45) and skipper Mahmudullah Riyad (33) combined for a 77-run third-wicket stand that took the score past 100.

Abu Jayed got the better of Malan and then left-arm spinner Sunzamul Islam grabbed a brace, removing Carlos Brathwaite and Riyad off back-to-back deliveries in the 18th over.

However the lower order batsmen couldn’t hit it well in the rest of the overs of the match, leaving Khulna 10-15 runs short at least, which later proved to be a decisive factor.
