Comilla Victorians Australian recruit Steven Smith flew to Sydney on Thursday to undergo an MRI after a previous elbow injury flared up in the last couple of days. He is expected to be back in Bangladesh sometime next week, according to the team management and thereby will miss at least two matches.

"He is quite positive about returning, possibly during the Sylhet phase of the competition," Victorians media manager Sohanuzzaman Khan told the reporters on Thursday. "He will undergo an MRI in Australia, which isn't available in Bangladesh, and will inform us about it."

Their next two matches in Dhaka are against Rajshahi Kings and Chittagong Vikings on January 11 and 13, while their Sylhet phase begins on January 15.

Smith was appointed as the captain of Comilla Victorians in his first appearance in BPL but scored just 16 an 0 in his two matches against Sylhet Sixers and Rangpur Riders.

Smith though led Comilla a four-wicket win over Sylhet Sixers in the first match, his side was bowled out for 63 against Rangpur Riders, which was the sixth lowest total of the tournament and conceded a nine-wicket defeat. Smith is believed to feel pain on his elbow in that match.

Smith’s participation in the BPL made news after the organisers had to change the drafting rules to accommodate him.
