Youngster Afif Hossain revealed that David Warner’s tips during their partnership came as good for him but he insisted that he played his own brand of cricket to finally prove his batting worth.

Afif Hossain’s 28 ball-45, smacking five fours and three sixes contributed in Sylhet Sixers’ five-run victory over Chittagong Vikings as they sealed their first victory in BPL, following their four-wicket defeat to Comilla Victorians in the penultimate ball in their first match.

But what caught the attention was Afif’s stroke-making ability as he eclipsed his illustrious colleague David Warner in every shots during their match-defining 71-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

With Sylhet seemingly in precarious position, being reduced to six for three in just third over, their partnership changed the momentum of the game as Afif first made the counterattack to disarray the Chittagong bowling line up.

While Afif picked runs at 160.71 strike rate, Warner’s strike rate was 125.53 in his 47 ball-59 runs knock.

“It was a great matter to bat with the batsman like David Warner. I was excited. Batting with him certainly gave me confidence and moreover he was giving tips, what I tried to execute properly,” Afif said on Wednesday.

“I wanted to play my brand of cricket. It’s the thing that I try to play always, so i tried to play that way in this match. I tried to be choosy in ball selection and took singles in good balls while tried to hit boundary in bad balls.”

Afif believed their victory from a tight position would help them in the next matches.

“Definitely it would have great effect. We weren’t in good position during the powerplay but we made a good comeback and took us to the great position. This is a positive thing which will help us in the next matches.”

He said the team management gave them the confidence after their disappointing loss to Comilla Victorians in the first match.

“Not only Warner, the whole team management tried to make us realise that we waged a huge fight in the first match and made the first game tight from a comparatively bad position. So that was the thing what helped us in this match and we eventually came back.”
