Bangladesh pace bowler Abu Jayed said that pacers failure to impress in the domestic games at Sylhet played a huge part behind going with one pace bowler against Zimbabwe.

Despite taking four pace bowlers Bangladesh rested three of their seam bowlers and opted for three spinners instead in the opening game of the two-match Test series. Zimbabwean batsman Sean Williams said that the opening Test is evenly poised between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe at Sylhet on Saturday.

Zimbabwe made 236-5 in the opening day and they are looking to make some quick runs against the host in the second morning.

The only thing Bangladesh managed to do well is keeping their batsmen from playing their strokes but despite winning the ODI series in such convincing manner and then taking such a different route only suggested host lacked imagination.

Neither there was any huge turn on the wicket while their decision to take a new ball after 80 overs suggested they wanted something from their lone pace bowler Abu Jayed.

If that was the case than resting Mustafizur Rahman can be termed a huge mistake as the ball was gripping and it was ideal for him to extract most out of it.

If resting him for the second Test was a move they did not wanted to change a chance could be given to Shafiul Islam and uncapped Mohammad Khaled.

However, pace bowler Abu Jayed decided to save his skin by trying to justify the XI comprised with one pace bowler as he believe it was largely because the pacers did not do well in the recent past.

“I am not the right person to say why we opted for one pace bowlers because it was the decision of the team managements,” said Jayed.

“Management understood that pace-bowling will not be good on this wicket. For the past few days, we had doubts regarding Sylhet’s wicket. In 2013-14, the wicket is Sylhet was bouncy,” he said.

“We played with three pacers in the National [Cricket] League as well. Two pacers bowled a total of 14 overs. So, I think Team Management is doing what it thinks is good,” he added.
