Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal said the Tigers are not dependent on any particular individual and so his absence in all likelihood won’t affect them in the Asia Cup.
Tamim was supposed to anchor the Bangladesh batting innings from the very beginning, in the Asia Cup. However, he returned home from Dubai as he was ruled out of the tournament but not before battling it out in the middle despite sustaining a wrist injury in the opening match.
Tamim was the top-scorer for his side when they registered their first ODI series-win abroad, against West Indies, after nine years. So it goes without saying that his absence will surely create a void up the order, in terms of experience.

The southpaw, however, thinks that a players’ absence should have the minimal impact on the team’s performance.
“I don’t think the performance of the team will be entirely changed for individual cricketer and it shouldn’t happen whatsoever,” he said.
The next match between Bangladesh and Afghanistan will determine nothing but a change in their Super Four schedule, as both of them have already advanced to that stage. Bangladesh would still want to defeat the Afghan side who also have recorded a massive 91-run victory over Sri Lanka
Considering Bangladesh’s last Asia Cup encounter against Afghanistan along with their recent 3-0 deficit against the same team, the next clash between the two will be more than just pride at stake for the Mashrafe-led men.
Tamim wants the Tigers to carry their momentum in the next clashes instead of pressurizing themselves for the “champions” tag too early.
“We wanted a good start and we got it, I hope we will play the next match like this throughout the tournament. And talking about being champions I think we need think match by match rather than thinking so far,” said the left-handed batsman.
