Bangladesh batsman Mohammad Mithun said he is ready to open if necessary in the ongoing Asia Cup.
Mithun scored his maiden ODI half-century in the opening game against Sri Lanka that helped his side earn a massive 137-run win. He along with Mushfiq, who hit his career best 144 runs, added match-deciding 131 runs for the third wicket to lay the platform for a commendable total against their Asian neighbors.
Bangladesh posted challenging 261 runs and with the combined efforts of the bowlers they bundled out Sri Lanka for 124 runs in 35.2 overs, their lowest total against Tigers in ODI’s format.

Mithun, who usually played at different positions in his career, is considered to be a middle-order batman in the present line-up of Tigers but the unexpected ruling out of Tamim Iqbal might see him return at the top, if the team management wants.
“To be honest I don’t know where I will bat in the next game but if the team requires I am ready to open the match,” Mithun told reporters in the United Arab Emirates on Monday.
Mithun is happy to have contributed for the team’s winning-cause and said that he did not find it difficult to come into bat earlier albeit it was not something he was expecting.
“Look, to be honest I am happy that I can contribute for the team.
“So far this is the best innings of my life because till date did not do anything that would have helped to create any kind of buzz,” said Mithun.
“It is true that I did not expect to go in so early because batting at five is considered to be a place for the middle order. We don’t have such collapses often so it was a bit of a surprise to me,” he added.
