Bangladesh High Performance head coach Simon Helmot believes that Mohammad Mithun has the potential to replace Sabbir Rahman down the order.
Sabbir's disciplinary issues have earned him a six-month ban from international cricket, a sanction that was approved by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on September 1. After his unexpected exit from the scene, for the time being, the Tigers are desperately looking for someone who can do the job at number seven.
Helmot, who saw Mithun in the middle-order during the one-day matches, as well as cracking in the T20s while coming to open the innings against Ireland, firmly believes that his ability to adapt in versatile condition puts him well placed to grab a position in the national setup, where he last played during the tri-national final, as the long lean patch of Anamul Haque's form opened a place for him at the top.

“He can bat anywhere between one and seven for sure,” Simon told the reporters on Saturday.
“I think he is a versatile cricketer and he plays well against spin and pace. He plays well from on foot and on front foot, so he is versatile cricketer and he keeps as well and I am pleased with fellow like Mithun, who did so well to find himself o=in the Asia cup,” he said.
Earlier, Mithun, who has played 3 ODIs and 13 T20Is, said that he is prepared himself for every situation. He is also ready to take the challenge of finishing the game on a high note.
“You can’t focus on your own choice when the team needs you. Every person has a goal in life, but not everything will be filled. I have to be prepared for all positions for the sake of the team.
“No matter which position I am batting at, I will try to give 100 percent and I will take care that the team is getting the advantage,” Mithun said.
He batted with lot of authority in the match scenario practice sessions, which indicates he is adapting to the new place that he is expected to fill in during the upcoming Asia cup, in the UAE.
