Bangladesh High Performance head coach Simon Helmot is looking forward to working extensively so that they can end the leg-spinner scarcity of the country. Modern day cricket is dominated by the leg-spinners across formats as all the leading teams of the world try to bolster their strength by including a wrist-spinner.
Young leg-spin prodigy Jubair Hossain Likhon looked to have brought some breath of fresh air when he was introduced in the international arena but somehow could not live up to the expectations.
“That's definitely an area which we want to improve upon and speaking to our coaches, we are going to look far and wide through Bangladesh, to find our next best leg spinner,” Helmot told reporters at Mirpur.

“We have got an young fellow in Rishad, we have got one or two here and there and obviously Tanbir, Likhon.
“Look leg spinners don't just fall from the sky. It's the same in every country. So we do need to find some good leg spinners,” he said.
Helmot believes that leg-spinners need to be backed so that they can gain confidence in their own ability contrary to the prevailing system in place in the domestic circuit where they are ignored like piece of nuts.
“But these guys need to perform consistently in these programs as well as in the domestic cricket. And they need to get opportunity in the domestic cricket. That's a key factor. If they don't games, It's very hard to get a game for the country,” said the Australian coach.
Tanbir Hayder, who played two ODI matches for Bangladesh, has some issue with his bowling speed. But the coach is optimistic about the 26-year-old leg spinner.
“Yes, obviously he is going to have to keep developing the skills, variations. Obviously increasing the speed is something he can work on. Leg spin takes a lot of time to develop and improve,” he concluded.
