The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed the appointment of Neil McKenzie as the batting consultant of the Tigers. The former South Africa batsman replaces Thilan Samaraweera, who stepped down in 2017 before Simon Helmot was appointed as the interim batting coach for the Nidahas Trophy.
McKenzie will work with the team until the ICC Cricket World Cup next year. He was due to join the Bangladesh team on July 7, before the second Test against West Indies in Jamaica. However, BCB chief executive Nizamuddin has confirmed that he will be joining the side on July 22.
“We are expecting his arrival on July 22. We have appointed him until the next ICC World Cup,” BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury reportedly said.
“We are confident that his vast experience will help our team, and our batsmen in particular.”

The 42-year-old has previously served as the batting coach of South Africa, in two terms (in 2016 and 2018).
The BCB named Steve Rhodes as head coach of the men’s national team last month. Ryan Cook was also appointed as fielding coach of the side earlier this month.
Following their Test series whitewash against West Indies, Bangladesh will now take on the Caribbean side in a three-ODI series starting on Sunday (July 22). They will also face the hosts in three T20Is.
