Tigresses make dominant winning start

Bangladesh have started their campaign on a positive note by winning their first match in the Women’s World T20 qualifier. The newly crowned Asian champions have registered a comfortable win over Papua New Guinea.
After winning the toss and sending the opponents to bat first, Bangladesh bowlers helped the side tighten their grip on the match by allowing only 84 runs in 20 overs. Panna Ghosh was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers with two for 15.
Only three of the Papua New Guinea batters reached the double digits with Tanya Ruma and Veru Frank scoring 20-odd runs. Ruma remained not out on 23 while Frank got dismissed by Fahim Khatun for 27 runs.
Rumana Ahmed, Jahanara Alam, and Salma Khatun also bagged a wicket each as Papua New Guinea posted 84 for six.
Bangladesh didn’t have much difficulties chasing the paltry target, thanks to a fine 35-run innings from opener Shamima Sultana.

Papua New Guinea captain Pauke Siaka made the breakthrough for her team by removing Ayasha Rahman for 15 runs. Vicky Araa later dismissed Sultana and then an unbeaten partnership between Fargana Hoque and Nigar Sultana took the Tigresses home.
Bangladesh won the match by eight wickets with 31 balls remaining. They will face the hosts, Netherlands, on Sunday (July 8) in another group B encounter. Papua New Guinea will take on United Arab Emirates on the same day.
