BCCI names replacement for Bumrah ahead of England ODIs

Shardul Thakur has been called in to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the ODI squad ahead of India’s three-match series against England, BCCI confirmed in a statement on Friday (July 6).
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Shardul Thakur as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in India’s ODI squad. Bumrah underwent a surgery on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, in Leeds before returning to India. The surgery was successful and he will commence rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team,” the statement read.
Bumrah injured his left thumb during the first T20I against Scotland last month. He missed the second game of that series and was ruled out of the limited-overs leg of India’s tour of England.
Axar Patel will replace another injured player, Washington Sundar, in the ODI squad. The duo’s injury had earned Krunal Pandya and Deepak Chahar their maiden national call-up for India’s three-T20I series against England.

Following the limited-overs series, England will host India for another five match Test series, scheduled to start on August 1.
