Roach's fifer restricts Bangladesh to 43
Bangladesh’s start to the two-match Test series couldn’t have been any worse as West Indies ripped apart their batting line-up to bundle out the hapless team for just 43 runs in the first innings of the series opener.
It all started with a magnificent fifer from Kemar Roach who dismissed Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque before removing each of Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mahmudullah Riyad for a duck in the same over. Opener Liton Das tried to salvage the pride of his side by standing firm against the Caribbean bowling attack. He couldn’t manage to score more than 25 runs as Miguel Cummins sent him back to the hut. Liton was the only batsman to have reached the double figures.
Cummins also scalped the wickets of Nurul Hasan and Mehidy Hasan before Jason Holder wiped out the tail. It took the West Indian bowlers only 18.4 overs to put an end to Bangladesh’s miserable innings on the green top.
Bangladesh registered their lowest innings total in Test cricket, shattering the previous record of 62 runs.
Both these teams have endured contrasting pathways in world cricket over the past few years or so. West Indies, currently are positioned below Bangladesh in the ICC Test Rankings are looking desperate to redeem that.
