Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad offered a great start to Bangladesh’s tour of West Indies as the Tigers registered a fine 403 on the first day of the two-day practice match. Each of the two batters belted a century after Alzarri Joseph triggered an early collapse in the visitors’ batting line-up.

Deciding to bat first against the West Indies Board President XI, Bangladesh were three down for 22 runs as Liton Das, Mominul Haque, and Nazmul Hasan Shanto failed to make their mark. Shakib Al Hasan then stitched a 90-run stand along with Tamim and returned to the pavilion scoring 67 runs after Joseph struck for the fourth time.

Tamim shared another 165-run partnership with Mahmudullah to set the team on course. The left-hander retired on 125, but the latter continued to add runs to Bangladesh’s total. Mahmudullah scored 102 runs before retiring.

Imrul Kayes, batting at no. 9, went on to contribute 40 runs of the total and the only other batsman reaching the double figures was Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who made 28 runs. Miraz was dismissed by Romario Shepherd and Kayes was sent back to the hut by John Campbell. Koen Harding and Gudakesh Motie also scalped one wicket each.

The senior members of the Bangladesh team have done well with the bat. The rest of the batsmen will now look to overcome their mistakes while the bowlers will also try to have a good start in the game to help their side go into the series with all bases covered.
