India ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was highly criticized on Twitter for the way he indulged in a banter with Herschelle Gibbs on Monday. Following his promotional tweet on some new Nike running shoes, the former South Africa batsman decided to get involved in a bit of leg-pulling as the spinner is not one of the fastest or quickest players in the game.

However, Ashwin seemed to have taken the matter seriously and came up with a reply that mentioned Gibbs’ involvement in the infamous match-fixing incident.

“Hey, Guys! Just got my hands on the new NIKE React. It’s got a stunning design and the foam technology used makes it light and comfortable to use. Undoubtedly, the best running shoes I’ve stepped into, can’t wait to flaunt them," the Tamil Nadu bowler wrote.

"Hopefully you will be able to run a bit faster now Ashwin," Gibbs replied.

Ravi Ashwin, not taking the reply lightly, responded, “Surely not as fast as you did mate, unfortunately, I wasn't blessed as you were. But I was blessed with a wonderfully ethical mind not to fix games which put food on my plate,"

Gibbs certainly did not expect such retort and wrote, “Can’t take a joke I see anyway moving swiftly on”.

Ashwin did not give up and replied, “I totally believed my reply was a joke too, but look how people and yourself perceived it. I am totally game for this sort of fun mate, we shall dine over this sometime.”

The Twitterati went berserk seeing Ashwin’s reply in the beginning which later resulted in the bowler finally taking down the controversial remark.
