Rabada follows Mashrafe's footsteps

South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada has been fined 15% of his
match fee for breaching ICC’s Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support
Personnel during the 5th ODI against India. He has been given a demerit point
as well for the same incident.
The 22-year-old was charged by the on-field umpires for
giving a send-off to India opener Shikhar Dhawan. After dismissing the batsman,
Rabada waved at him and said something to the departing player that could have
provoked the batsman to react instantly.
"Rabada was charged by the on-field umpires Ian Gould
and Shaun George, third umpire Aleem Dar and fourth umpire Bongani Jele under
article 2.1.7, which relates to using language, actions or gestures which
disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon
his/her dismissal during an International Match," ICC said in a statement.
A formal hearing was not required as Rabada admitted the
offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates
Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees.

However, this is not the first time that the young bowler
has been charged with such offence. He was involved in similar incidents before
and got three demerit points in an ODI against Sri Lanka in February last year.
Rabada got another demerit point in a Test against England in July, 2017 and was suspended for the following Test for reaching the threshold of four
demerit points within 24 months. With the demerit point that Rabada got on tuesday, the quick has reached a tally of five demerit points.
Rabada will be handed another suspension for two Tests, or
one Test and two ODIs/T20Is, or four ODIs/T20Is if he reaches a total of eight
demerit points before February, 2019.
Earlier in January this year, Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza and Sri Lanka bowler Danushka Gunathilaka were charged for getting involved in a similar offence that finally resulted in a fine and one demerit point for each of them.
