Sujon irritated by rumors of getting 'beaten'

Bangladesh national cricket team’s technical director, Khaled Mahmud Sujon, is disappointed with the way the media have been treating him. He revealed that he is not interested in taking the responsibilities of the team in future. According to him, the board will now decide who will be taking former coach Hathurusingha’s place ahead of the Nidahas Trophy.

Khaled Mahmud reportedly said, “The board will decide (who will be in charge) in Nidahas Trophy because the board itself had given me this responsibility. I never want to say that ‘I don’t want to work’ but it seems to be a problem only when a Bangladeshi is working. When Chandika came first, or when there were other big coaches, even then, the results were bad at the beginning but this did not happen. I can take responsibility for bad results.

“There may be mistakes in our plans, there may be something more to it. But there are many other events (in the media). There are too many charges on me. I'll tell the board. However, personally, I'm not interested. I do not want to work with the Bangladesh cricket team. The position feels dirty.”

“I have been working for the development of Bangladesh's cricket for so many years. I do not have any self-interest. Even staying at the [Bangladesh] Cricket Board does not serve my self-interest,” he added.

The former Bangladesh cricketer said media is hampering the progress of the team. He was also hurt by the way media described Mosaddek Hossain’s exclusion from the playing XI during the second Test.

Sujon stated, "Media is one of the biggest obstacles in our cricket. We are getting so strange. Whether media is affecting cricket is also a question now. There is so much talk in the media. But some things are becoming negative for our cricket.

“When they [media] say that I am Abahani's head coach, so I didn’t make Mosaddek play [for the national side] so that he can play for Abahani; when someone speaks such things in the name of national interest, it really hurts because I do not think I care more about anything other than the Bangladesh national team. I start doubting what I have done for the team in these years. If Mosaddek and Abahani are the reason for losing the match, it makes things difficult.”

Khaled Mahmud Sujon is unhappy with the kind of “threats” he has been getting on social media. After losing the tri-nation final and the Test series against Sri Lanka, the technical director is being criticized everywhere.

He said, “Whatever I have done until now, I have never heard anything good. I have just heard bad things. Be it social media or media, I even hear things like if I go out on the streets I might get beaten by people. It is very irritating if someone gets beaten on for playing cricket.”

"I am probably not doing anything good for Bangladesh. If that is the case then what’s the use of being here? I have not come here for any self-interest, I do not need anything, I am very happy with whatever job I do and whatever I get,” Khaled Mahmud concluded.
