India slip up despite Dhawan's record-breaking innings

India, for the second time in this tour, came to Johannesburg to face South Africa on Friday. However, this time they were not here to play a dead rubber Test match, awaiting a comeback. In fact, they started the clash with a 3-0 lead in the ODI series.
Unlike the Test, South Africa came out victorious this time as the visiting side got defeated by 5 wickets. They are yet to lose a match wearing their annual pink jersey, which is an initiative to increase breast cancer awareness.
The Proteas were struck by a number of injuries throughout the series. Their captain, Faf u Plessis, was ruled out owing to an injury. Luckily, AB de Villiers was back in the playing XI after being sidelined for the first 3 ODIs due to an injury.
Winning the toss, India opted to bat first. They posted 289 runs on the scoreboard losing 7 wickets.
Rohit Sharma once again disappointed with his performance as Rabada got him out caught and bowled for 5 runs. Shikhar Dhawan then shared a 158-run stand with India skipper Virat Kohli.
Kohli got out playing a crucial innings of 75 runs. Chris Morris dismissed him before he could reach his 35th ODI ton. On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan became the first Indian batsman to score a hundred on his 100th ODI. His record-breaking innings ended on 109 runs off 105 deliveries as Morne Morkel scalped his wicket.
Among the other batsman, only MS Dhoni played a much-needed innings of 44 runs to keep the score ticking while a set of poor displays was prevailing at the other end.

Lungisani Ngidi took two wickets and Rabada got one more in the later stage of the innings.
While chasing the target of 290 runs, Aiden Markram was the first batsman to return to the pavilion as he was trapped plumb by Bumrah. The South African stand-in skipper made 22 runs before leaving the crease. His departure was followed by a pause in the game due to rain. The target was set to 202 runs in 28 overs when the match resumed. As a result, the Proteas needed 159 more runs to win from the 124 deliveries left.
Jean-Paul Duminy could not manage to make more than 10 runs before Kuldeep Yadav trapped him lbw. His exit was followed by another dismissal as the same bowler bagged the wicket of Hashim Amla on 33 runs in his next over.
Hardik Pandya dismissed AB de Villiers just when he started getting aggressive with the bat. De Villiers took 26 runs off 18 deliveries before leaving the pitch.
David Miller also played an important knock of 39 runs from 28 balls before Chahal picked up his wicket. Henry Klassen and Andile Phehlukwayo remained unbeaten to ensure the victory. Klassen was awarded the Man of the Match as he stood firm for the hosts until the very end.
Klassen clubbed 43 off 27 deliveries, but it was Phehlukwayo’s 23-run cameo off just 5 balls which sealed the match with 15 balls remaining. The all-rounder smashed one boundary and three over-boundaries to finish the match.
South Africa will now look to continue this performance as one can result in a series-defeat. The two teams will face-off each other on 13 February in Port Elizabeth.
