Chandimal points out Bangladesh’s biggest mistake

When Sri Lanka arrived in Bangladesh last month, not many people expected them to win against the Tigers in their own hunting ground. With the addition of Chandika Hathurusingha in the dressing room, however, Sri Lanka had an advantage over their opponents.

And in the end, it did work out for the Lankans as they have dismantled the Tigers both in the tri-nation and the Test series. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal expressed his surprise at Bangladesh preparing such a turning track when it was the visitors that had the experience in that department.

The Sri Lankan captain also stressed that the wicket was a “nightmare” for the batsmen.

‘This was a really good series. The first game was a nightmare for the bowlers and this one was a nightmare for the batters. The guys executed our game plans really well out in the middle.

‘After the first game we thought the second pitch might be a turning wicket. We were surprised, because we have all the experienced spinners.

‘Credit also goes to Roshen Silva who had an outstanding series - even Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya. Also all the bowlers.’

Speaking of Roshen Silva, the right-handed batsman was phenomenal in his approach as he scored two 50s in the Tests, being awarded the man of the match for his craft. In his presentation, he thanked God that Sri Lanka won the toss and got to bat first.

‘First of all I want to thank the almighty God for helping Chandimal win the toss on this wicket. We batted first and the rest is history. I thought this wicket was difficult so I just wanted to keep it simple - I just played my normal game.

‘I think one of the strength's we have is the guys in the lower order never throw away their wickets. Even 20-30 runs is very valuable on this wicket. I hope and I pray that I can carry this forward for the rest of the career.’
