Former West Indies skipper Clive Lloyd said that West Indian players don’t understand English condition and paying the price in the ongoing ICC World Cup.
West Indies have lots of power hitter into their squad, Chris Gayle, Andre Russel, Nicolas Pooran, Shemron Hetmeyer, Even Lewis etc. They are more focused on hitting boundaries rather than playing sensibly, Llyod thinks.
Lloyd believes to be successful in English condition you don’t always have to blast the ball out of the park, you need to play the ball to its own merit.
“They are trying to blast people out and I don’t think they understand the English conditions. You cannot always do that here because the pitches during this competition have been batsman friendly despite the rain. It might be green but it doesn’t always fly around.” Llyod said.

Llyod praised Bangladesh for their monumental chase and on the other hand he also expressed his disappointed over his countrymen for showing a poor cricketing show.
“Bangladesh were ready for that sort of onslaught and to chase down 320 with eight overs to spare is a great effort, but it is poor cricket by the West Indies.” Llyod added.
Llyod suggested West Indian batsmen to follow New Zealand captain Kane Williamson. He was really impressed with the way Kane batted against South Africa, Kane scored unbeaten 106 and took his team to victory. Llyod thinks West Indian batsmen should learn a thing or two on how to bat in English condition.
“The West Indies would benefit from learning a thing or two from Williamson.” Llyod said.
“His [ Kane’s ] innings to knock off South Africa was absolutely masterful, one of the finest I have ever seen in an ODI game. He is a fantastic reader of the game and knows how to adapt to what is going on around him.” Llyod added.
