Bangladesh left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam claimed that he is regaining his confidence after recovering sufficiently from the freaky finger injury sustained in the West Indies, as he prepares himself for the upcoming Asia Cup.

Nazmul picked up the injury after Windies batsman Chadwick Walton had unintentionally stepped on the bowler’s left-hand during the T20I series decider on August 5 at Lauderhill, Florida. The injury saw him receive 25 stitches and required him to go through a four-week rehabilitation program.

Nazmul, who is yet to make a debut in the ODIs, began bowling in the nets on August 2 and is gradually getting back to make himself ready to partner Sakib al Hasan in the middle if required.

“I don’t have any problem in my hand and at present bowling at full range. I have taken some tips from our spin bowling coach in the skill training session and hope to implement it if opportunity occurs for me,” said a confident looking Nazmul.

The 27-year-old bowler’s admission regarding his fitness is surely a welcome relief for the team management as they have quite a few injury concerns in the likes of Nazmul Hasan and Tamim Iqbal in their 16-member squad.

BCB had to include Mominul Haque in the squad as backup after the organizers permitted them to have an extra player.

The Tigers are scheduled to leave Dhaka for the UAE on September 9. They will take on Sri Lanka at Dubai International Stadium on the opening day of the tournament, slated to be held September 15.
