Former England spinner Graeme Swann is of the opinion that Jonny Bairstow should not be allowed to call for reviews after his dreadful use of the DRS in the first Test. The wicketkeeper-batsman persuaded his team to take the review after the umpire decided to not raise the finger against Murali Vijay for an LBW in third over of day two.

As the decision was reviewed, it was notable that the ball was missing the stumps with quite a margin. Each team gets two reviews per innings and England lost one of theirs at a very early stage of their bowling innings.

It might not have hurt England as much as the hosts went on to win the Test anyway but former England off-spinner Graeme Swann stated that the wicketkeeper should never be allowed to make DRS calls.

“Jonny Bairstow should be completely struck off from being allowed to call for reviews. He’s like an excitable puppy.”

He brought up the example of Paul Collingwood as he was also banned from making reviews following an abysmal call.

“Paul Collingwood always used to steam in from point saying it was definitely out, only for it to be missing by miles.

“So he was banned from making reviews in our team.”

England will lock horns with the visitors in the second Test on the 9th of August and it would be interesting to see whether captain Joe Root would oblige with the advice of Swann.
