Minhajul Abedin thinks Duke ball is the reason for Bangladesh’s demise

After Bangladesh were sent to the cleaners by the West Indian bowlers – they couldn’t conjure even 200 runs in two innings with the bat – chief selector Minhajul Abedin has stated that the difference in the balls used in Bangladesh and West Indies may have been the cause of the former’s demise.

Bangladesh players use Kookaburra balls whereas the West Indians use Duke balls and Minhajul Abedin thinks that the latter swings more, which is why the Bangladeshi players – who are not used to playing much with Duke balls – struggled in West Indies. He also added that the pitch used in the first Test was more bouncy and completely different from the one used in the practice match.

'There was a difference between the pitch of the practice match and the pitch used in the first Test, where the pitch was bouncing and swinging more. They are also accustomed to playing with Duke balls while we are habituated to Kookaburra balls. Duke balls swing a lot, we know that.

'[Duke ball] might come in handy in England, it hasn't worked for us in West Indies. In this case, we feel that we have gone onto the backfoot for these bouncy tracks. However, [I] didn't expect such a [batting] adversity.'

This is the first time since 2014 when Bangladesh traveled to the Caribbean and played a Test series against them, something that makes this a challenging tour according to Minhajul Abedin.

'We have gone to West Indies after a long time, so I think that it is [a] very challenging [tour]. We were aware that it wouldn't be easy but we are hoping to play positive cricket in the next match.'

Bangladesh will play the final Test of the tour on 12th of July and will have to save that Test in order to maintain their place above West Indies in the Test rankings.
