Chittagong Kings have officially booked their place in the BPL playoffs after a resounding 96-run victory over Sylhet Strikers on Thursday night in Mirpur. Despite earlier controversies surrounding unpaid wages, the Kings delivered a commanding performance, powered by solid batting contributions and a sensational bowling display from pacer Shoriful Islam.

With this win, Chittagong Kings now have 14 points from 11 matches. A victory in their final group-stage game against Fortune Barishal would secure them a spot in the first qualifier, pushing Rangpur Riders into the eliminator.

The match was completely one-sided as Sylhet Strikers, playing their last game of the tournament, crumbled under pressure. After opting to bat first, Chittagong Kings posted a competitive total of 196 runs, thanks to two half-centuries and crucial late contributions. In response, Sylhet struggled to build any momentum, getting bowled out for just 100 runs.

Shoriful Islam was the star with the ball, dismantling the Sylhet batting lineup with figures of 4 wickets for just 5 runs in 3.2 over.

Despite losing opener Parvez Hossain Emon and Graham Clark early, Pakistani batter Khawaja Nafay and skipper Mohammad Mithun steadied the innings. Nafay smashed 52 off 30 balls, while Mithun played a composed knock of 52 from 38 deliveries.

Later, Shamim Hossain Patwary accelerated the scoring with a quickfire 38 off 23 balls, followed by an explosive cameo from pacer Khaled Ahmed, who scored 25 off just 13 balls to push the total close to 200.

Chasing 197, Sylhet made a decent start, with Rony Talukdar and Zakir Hasan keeping them in the contest for the first five overs. Zakir scored 19 off 12 balls, while Rony managed 17 from 12. However, their dismissals triggered a collapse, and Sylhet never recovered.

Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam wreaked havoc, dismantling the Strikers’ batting lineup with his lethal spell, sealing a massive win for Chittagong Kings.

This season has been a major disappointment for Sylhet Strikers, who managed only two wins from 12 matches, both coming at their home venue. Their campaign ended in dismay, while Chittagong Kings march on with their eyes set on the playoffs.
