The absence of foreign players resulted from a pay dispute, with Rajshahi's international recruits refusing to play due to unpaid wages.

While Rajshahi's local players and management arrived at the venue well before the scheduled start, the lack of foreign players was conspicuous.

Head coach Ejaz Ahmed was the sole foreign representative present. Despite the challenges, the match proceeded after the BPL Technical Committee granted special permission for Rajshahi to field an all-domestic lineup.

“The Durbar Rajshahi team, currently competing in the 2025 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20, has applied to the BPL Technical Committee for special approval to field a team consisting solely of Bangladeshi players for today’s match against Rangpur Riders due to the non-availability of overseas players.

After a review of the request and in accordance with the provisions outlined in Clause 1.2.8 of the Match Playing Conditions of BPL 2024-25, the Technical Committee has granted approval for Durbar Rajshahi to field a team consisting of only Bangladeshi players for this match.”

It was confirmed that Rajshahi’s overseas players, including Mohammad Haris, Ryan Burl, Mark Deyal, , Miguel Cummins and Aftab Alam, stayed back at the team hotel, demanding their outstanding payments before participating.

At the toss, captain Taskin Ahmed acknowledged that the team had undergone significant changes due to the absence of their foreign stars.
