Mumbai Indians registered a 48-run victory over Kings XI Punjab in the 13th match of the 2020 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), courtesy a stunning Ro’hit’ knock of 70 off 45 and a bowling spell of 4-0-18-2 by Jasprit Bumrah.

Kings XI Punjab won the toss and opted to field first. Put into bat, Mumbai Indians faced a big blow. Sheldon Cottrell provided with the first breakthrough by removing Quinton de Kock for a duck and that too conceded no run as well.

Meanwhile, the captain Rohit Sharma welcomed Mohammed Shami with a four in the 2nd over and completed his 5000 IPL runs as well. He also hit a back-footed punch for a boundary between point and cover in the same over. Soon, Suryakumar Yadav joined him in the party and took on twice for fours off Cottrell before he ran out for 10.

Mumbai managed only 42 runs in the power play. However, economical spells from Punjab put on a check on their scoring and they could only manage 62 runs in 10 overs. However, the in-form Ishan Kishan couldn’t score big as he was seen struggling in the middle and only scored 28 off 32 before Krishnappa Gowtham dismissed him while Ishan was trying for a slog sweep and found Nair at deep mid-wicket.

While two big sixes came in the 15th over, Rohit Sharma smashed two big fours and two sixes in the 16th over and reached 70 off 45 before Shami dismissed him and Mumbai posted 129 runs in 17 overs. However, it was Pollard alongside Hardik Pandya who took the game to another level.

While Pandya smashed a maximum over long-on, he scored two fours in the same over, Pollard slammed three back-to-back fours. Later, Pollard smacked three more sixes in the final over and took the final score to 191 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing the big total, Punjab openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal started in a steady way. While Agarwal took the upper hand in the chase, he fell for 25 off Jasprit Bumrah. Even, Karun Nair too dismissed for a duck and soon Rahul - who was struggling in the middle and managed only 17 runs off 19, joined him in the dugout.

While the wickets were trembling at one end, Nicholas Pooran stood strong at the other end. He maintained at least one boundary per over and tried his best to speed up things before got an edge off Pattinson where de Kock took an easy catch and he dismissed for 44 off 27 with 3 fours and 2 sixes.

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell too failed to contribute much and only managed 11 runs off 18 balls. However, only Gowtham managed a 13-ball 22 as none of the lower order could reach the double figure. Pattinson, Bumrah and Rahul Chahar picked up 2 wickets each for Mumbai Indians and restricted the opponents within 143 in 20 overs.
