‘We could hire new pitch curators’ – Akram Khan

Bangladesh Cricket Operations Head, Akram Khan, has stated that the board could hire some curators from abroad in order to make pitches that suit the type of players that the country produce. This comes right after the Tigers lost their Test series against Sri Lanka after losing the second Test in Dhaka, on which he had something to say too.

‘Even in the worst of times, we had been able to do good in the past. Things like these can happen sometimes. We will, however, try that these things don’t happen in the future. But we are feeling disappointed about what happened.’

The pitch at Mirpur’s Shere Bangla Stadium was a turning track, something that helped the Sri Lankans more given that they had the more experienced spinners, coupled with Shakib Al Hasan’s absence due to injury.

However, it was perhaps the tracks used in the domestic circuit that bothered him the most. The legendary former captain of the Bangladesh team confessed that the tracks in the first-class games are often not like how they want it to be.

‘The pitch has to be according to what we want. We don’t always get the type of wicket that we want in the first division. There is a serious discussion going on about this.

‘We will perhaps hire a couple of curators from outside to solve the problem [of preparing appropriate pitches] together.’
