Salman Butt fails to make an impact

The Dhaka Premier League match between Legends of Rupganj
and Mohammedan Sporting Club commenced with the latter winning the toss and
deciding to field first. Rupjganj, in response, have started very well with
both their openers getting a start.
They, however, were pretty slow in their approach. Abdul
Mazid, especially, has scored 36 from 71 balls thus far. His opening partner
Salauddin Pappu got out after scoring 22 from 37 balls.
Sami Aslam was the next to come in, but he perished after
playing 9 balls and scoring only 1 run in the time being. Both the wickets were
taken by Bangladesh U19 sensation Qazi Onik, who was brilliant all through the
game.
Captain Naeem Islam was the next to go, but it wasn’t before
he scored 36 from 51 balls. Soon after, Abdul Mazid was sent back to the
pavilion with 70 runs from 115 balls.
Not much was expected as Rupganj were batting at 133/4 after
35.3 overs. However, a brilliant partnership from Tushar Imran and Avishek
Mitra helped the score reach 231 runs in 50 overs. The former scored 40 from 34
balls while the latter stayed on till the end to make 45 in as many balls.

The pick of the 22 players, though, was 18-year-old Qazi Onik.
He ended the innings with 5 from 44 in his 10 overs. He was well supported by
Enamul Haque’s 2 wickets for 38 runs in 10 overs.
In response, Mohammedan Sporting Club openers started well, especially
Rony Talukdar. In his 37 balls, he managed to score 30 runs and should be
disappointed at not being able to play a bigger innings. Salman Butt,
meanwhile, wasn’t effective enough.
He might have scored 21, but it took him 49 balls to reach
that figure before losing his wicket to Asif Hasan, who also took the wicket of
Talukdar.
Shamsur Rahman and Irfan Sukkur are on the crease now as Mohammedan are at 69 for 2 after 20 overs.
