‘All-rounder Mashrafe’ in the limelight in DPL

The 7th clash of the ongoing DPL between Gazi Group Cricketers and Shinepukur Cricket Club took place at Savar on Friday.


Winning the toss, Shinepukur captain opted to field first. Gazi Group lost four wickets while posting their first 77 runs. Jahurul Islam’s knock of 28 was the only decent innings among the batsmen who left the crease.


Zakir Ali Anik and Nadif Chowdhury then fought back and resisted further fall of wickets. Both picked up a fifty each but Shuvagoto Hom scalped his first wicket in the match by dismissing Nadif.


Anik clubbed 90 runs before getting dismissed by Mohammad Saifuddin. Rajat Bhatia played a crucial knock of 58 from 45 deliveries to help his team pose a good total.


Mohammad Saifuddin took two wickets while Sujon Hawlader, Raihan Uddin, and U-19 star Afif Hossain bagged one wicket apiece for Shinepukur. Gazi Group made 279 runs losing 6 wickets in the first 50 overs of the match.


While chasing the big total, Shinepukur did not lose any wickets until scoring 84 runs. Sabbir Hossain was dismissed by Mahedi after picking up his half-century. Sabbir made 55 runs and following his departure, another opener Shadman Islam got out scoring 40 runs.


The next two batsmen – Towhid Hridoy and Uday Kaul also picked up a fifty each. Both were dismissed by Rubel Ahmed on 51 and 59 runs, respectively. The departure of these two batsmen led to a collapse and before Shinepukur could recover from it, they got all-out at 259.


Rubel Ahmed and Nayeem Hasan took 3 wickets each and Abu Hider got 2 wickets. Kamrul Islam Rabbi also bagged a wicket for Shinepukur as they won the match by 20 runs.

The 8th game of the DPL between Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity and Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club was held at Savar. Khelaghar were sent to bat first after losing the toss.

Khelaghar kept losing wickets at regular intervals as they became 73/4. The only decent innings from the top-order batsmen came from Robiul Islam Robi. He scored 35 runs before getting dismissed while no other batsmen could pass 20 runs.


Nazimuddin rescued Khelaghar from falling apart in front of Prime Doleshwar’s bowling by clubbing 51 runs. Al Menaria and Nazimuddin shared a 74-run stand before the latter got out.


After Nazimuddin’s exit, Al Menaria got out scoring 45 runs. Moinul Islam was unbeaten on 32 runs and Mahidul Islam Ankon made 3 runs before leaving the crease.


Farhad Reza got the first two wickets by scalping the wickets of Sadiqur Rahman and Nafees Iqbal who scored 6 runs and 3 runs, respectively. He later got the wickets of Al Menaria and Mahidul Islam as well.


Arafat Sunny, Arafat Sunny Jr., and Sharifullah also bagged a wicket apiece. Khelagahar registered a total of 199 runs for 7 wickets.


Prime Doleshwar were looking quite comfortable with the chase as they lost their first 2 wickets after posting 83 runs. However, a mini-collapse at 135 runs saw them lose 3 wickets in 18 runs.


Opening batsmen Imtiaz Hossain and Fazle Mahmud made 23 and 42 runs, respectively. Marshall Ayub scored 31 runs but the next two batsmen got out before going past 10 runs.


Farhad Hossain made 45 runs before getting out. Sharifullah posted 24 runs after Arafat Sunny contributed by scoring 10 runs. The rest of the batsmen could not manage to score more than 5 runs each.


Wickets kept falling at regular intervals after Marshall Ayub’s exit. As a result, Prime Doleshwar produced a nail-biting win from what could have become a more comfortable victory. They lost 3 wickets in the space of 5 runs as their total became 197/9. However, Manik Khan took the last 3 runs in the last 3 balls to end the dramatic match.

The 9th match of the ongoing DPL between Abahani Ltd and Kalabagan Krira Chakra took place at Savar. Winning the toss Kalabagan decided to bowl first.


Anamul Haque Bijoy, the hero of the last match for his team, managed to score only 17 runs after his opening partner Saif Hassan got out scoring a duck. Both the openers were dismissed by Shahadat Hossain.


Another Kalabagan bowler Abul Hasan also stroke twice to dismiss Nasir Hossain and Mohammad Mithun before they could go past 15 runs. However, Nazmul Hasan Shanto stood firm during these wicket-falls and picked up his half-century. He was out, scoring 55 runs as Mukhtar Ali bagged his wicket.


Mukhtar scalped the next wicket as well by trapping Sachin Rana lbw. Mosaddek Hossain and Mashrafe Mortaza built a 98-run partnership as their team-total overcame 200 runs.


Mosaddek was run out on 40 and Mashrafe picked up a well-deserved half-century before getting out on 67 runs off 54. Jatin Saxena took Mashrafe's wicket and later dismissed Sunzamul Islam as well. Mukhtar Ali got the last wicket as Taskin Ahmed was out bowled by him.


While bowling, Mashrafe his team a breakthrough by getting Kalabagan opener Jasimuddin out on 4 runs. He got the next wicket as well by getting Jatin Saxena out on 9 runs. Another opener Tasamul Haque was out scoring 16 runs. This time Taskin Ahmed was the bowler, but Mashrafe caught the ball to dismiss the batsman.


Four decent innings from the middle-order batsmen put Kalabagan on course again. Mohammad Ashraful made 25 runs off 71 deliveries. Taibur Rahman also produced a slow innings of 26 from 60 balls. Mahmudul Hasan clubbed 38 runs and Mukhtar Ali picked 40 runs.


However, Mashrafe and Taskin did not let the rest of the batsmen score more than 10 runs in total. They wiped out the last five wickets, which included a run out by Mosaddek as well. The two bowlers picked up a total of 7 wickets in the game to ensure a 26-run victory with 11 balls remaining.


Mashrafe scalped 4 wickets and Taskin picked up 3. Mosaddek and Saqlain also bagged one wicket each.
