Naveed Nawaz named Bangladesh U19 head coach

Former Sri Lanka cricketer Naveed Nawaz has been appointed as the Bangladesh Under-19 head coach, on Tuesday (July 17). He will be in charge of the team until the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, in 2020.
“We have appointed him as our head coach until next World Cup. We expect his vast experience at working with age-level players will help him to take our cricketers forward,” a BCB official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Nawaz’s predecessor Damien Wright coached the side in the Under-19 World Cup this year where Bangladesh completed a sixth-place finish.
Nawaz had previously worked with the Sri Lanka Under-19 team as head coach in 2009. He had also worked as a consultant for the Sri Lanka Women side.

The former Sri Lanka batsman represented his country in four matches, including his only Test appearance against Bangladesh in 2002.
A three-match series against the High Performance Unit will be Nawaz’s maiden assignment in the new role.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board named Steve Rhodes as head coach for the senior men’s team last month. Neil McKenzie and Ryan Cook has also been appointed as the batting coach and the fielding coach respectively, for the Tigers.
