Mahindra Singh Dhoni is all set to make his cricketing comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 after a year-long absence. A successful season with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) could pave way for Dhoni to make his international comeback.

The return of IPL 2020 is truly exciting for cricket fans but it is more so for MSDians who have not been able to see MS Dhoni in action for over a year now.

Dhoni’s cricketing return is expected to answer some questions about his future, but as far as the talk of India comeback is concerned, Aakash Chopra feels the veteran wicket-keeper batsman wouldn’t fret about it.

Dhoni hasn’t given clarity to fans over his future in international cricket ever since the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup. He is turning out to play for CSK in IPL Season 13 and is expected to do so for at least one more season. As far as playing for the Indian team is concerned, the 39-year-old has maintained his silence.

While many reckon that Dhoni could make an Indian team return by performing well for CSK in the IPL this season, Chopra doesn't think the former skipper will be too concerned considering the position he is at in his career at the moment.

“From an individual’s perspective, from a batsman’s perspective or a career perspective, it is not that important. The stage he is in his career, he is not going to really fret about how each match of the IPL would go or whether he would be selected for Team India or not. He is past all of that,” he said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

Chopra feels when Dhoni will come out to bat for CSK, the only thing he will be thinking is to achieve success with the franchise and nothing else.

“This IPL is only important for him from one way that what would happen to Chennai Super Kings. Because the strings of Chennai Super Kings' success are all tied to MS Dhoni,” he opined.

“If he is in good form, it would be easier for him to carry the team. But if he is not making runs, then he will not enjoy the game as much. If I see from that angle, then each match that you play is important, also because he is playing cricket after a gap of one year.”

With that being said, Chopra is confident that Dhoni will once again score runs despite not playing any form of cricket for over a year. Whether that will pave way for his international return or not, is secondary.

“But if you look at his career and comeback in Team India and all of that, I don’t think it is going to have a huge impact. He will score runs now also and his team will also do well, I have no doubt about that,” he concluded.
