England World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan said that they got a narrow squeak from a shocking loss as he thought for a split second his adopted country would almost be dead and buried in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup final on home territory.

It is a year to the day since England clinched a remarkable Super Over win against New Zealand to claim their first World Cup title, an occasion that will live long in the memory for the sheer ridiculousness of it all.

“Obviously the last four months has been a bit of a challenge but that’s actually allowed me to watch the World Cup Final,” Eoin Morgan said.

“I’ve watched it three times now. That’s allowed me time to sit back and actually enjoy it for the first time,” Morgan was quoted in a leading website.

“It’s been an incredible day to sit back and watch. It's still tense throughout the whole day every time I watch it and watching it back, the ebbs and flow of the game, is a privilege,” he added.

The England captain even today felt his blown away chances of winning the world cup when Ben Stokes mishit one ball from Jamie Neesham.

''It probably came to me the second time I watched it, Jimmy Neesham’s bowling to Ben [Stokes], he bowls a slower ball, Ben hits it down to long on. I remember the ball being in the air and you can see the trajectory of the ball and you fully know when you hit it up the hill you have to absolutely smoke it to hit it for six.'' He added

“It’s gone high and not quite as long as he’d like and for a minute I just thought ‘That’s it, it’s over, Ben’s out, we still needed 15 runs from an over’. That’s when I thought for a split second we were dead and buried,” he signed off.
