In particular, the council was disappointed to hear the comments Akhtar had made about Rizvi, who is a respected member of the legal fraternity.

"Shoaib Akhtar should be very careful in his discussions on matters pertaining to the legal community," the statement said.

PCB in a statement also said that they were also disappointed with Akhtar's poor choice of words while commenting about the PCB's legal department and its legal advisor publicly.

"The language used by Akhtar was highly inappropriate and disrespectful, and cannot be condoned in any civilized society," the statement of PCB's added.

However, it also noted that the lawsuit did not involve the PCB as a complainant, although that may change.

"The PCB’s legal adviser, Mr. Taffazul Rizvi, in his own discretion, has initiated defamation and criminal proceedings against Shoaib Akhtar, while the PCB too reserves its rights," the statement concluded.
