One Day International World Cup is the biggest tournament in world cricket. Every cricketer desired to play in this prestigious tournament once in a life time and to achieve for their own country.

Many players had the chance to have the privilege of participating in the tournament where many didn't have any chance to taste the glory.

And then come the unfortunate ones, despite being into the finest form didn't got the chance to play for their team in the World Cup. The reasons behind this prolific players to miss out can be that they are more likely best in Test or shorter formats.

Here are five prolific cricketers who didn't have a chance to represent their country in a single World Cup.

1. Justin Langer:

Justin Lee Langer is an Australian cricket coach and former cricketer. Justin Langer is one of the greatest openers of Australia in international cricket.
He played 105 Tests in his 14 years career and scored more than 7000 runs.

The Aussies cricketer is the only batman from the golden era of Australian cricket who did not played in a single World Cup for his team. He had just played eight matches and manage to score 160 runs.

2. Matthew Hoggard:

Matthew Hoggard’s said to be the top 10 wicket takers of all time in the Test cricket for England. He was one of the best opening bowlers of his time, Hoggard claimed 248 wickets in just 67 Tests with a career-best match haul of 12/205 against South Africa.

The England fast bowler, however, did not have a very successful in his 26 ODI matches. Hoggard had 32 wickets, which included best figures of 5/49 in a match against Zimbabwe. He had his ODI career to an end in 2006 and didn't had any chance to be a part of the team in World Cup cricket, even though he was in the squad of 2003 World Cup but didn't played a single match.

3. Chris Martin

Chris Martin is one of the best pace bowlers who have played for New Zealand in Tests. He is only below Richard Hadlee and Daniel Vettori in the list of leading wicket-takers for NZ. Martin played 71 Tests and picked up 233 wickets with 10 five-wicket hauls and best figures of 11/180 against South Africa.

Despite being succesful in Test he didn't had quite a good run in his ODI career. He grabbed just 18 wickets in the 20 matches he played and was hardly in the team as the selectors’ rarely had him on their radar for the 50-over format. Chris Martin though got a chance to participate in the 2007 World Cup where he was being into the squad as the replacement of injured Daryl Tuffey. But unfortunately he did not get a game.

4. Sir Alastair Cook

Sir Alastair Cook has been quite an iconic figure in his country’s cricket, specially in Test cricket and is also a member of the 10,000-run club in Test cricket. Cook also captained the side quite brilliantly and won multiple Ashes Test matches during his successful tenure.

He had played 92 ODIs and scred over 3000 runs with five centuries but didn't had a chance to be in the squad of 50-over World Cup. It's quit a big surprise for everyone.

5. VVS Laxman

The one of the 'Fab Four', legendary Indian batsman VVS Laxman didn't played a single World Cup match in his whole career. In his career he had played 134 Tests and scored 8781 runs at an average of just under 46 and hit 17 tons including a career-best of 281 against Australia at the Eden Gardens.

He was one of the Test batsman but it is hard to say that he was a great ODI batsman, he played briliantly in ODI he had scored four out of six ODI hundrer against Australia and had an average of 46.18 against them. He had played 86 ODIs, however, his chance to play for India in World Cup cricket never came as he never made it to any of the squads.
