Although the Bangladesh women's team fought hard, India proved to be too good on the day as they won their Group A match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup match by 18 runs at Perth.
Batting first after losing the toss, India scored 142/6 to which Bangladesh replied with 124/8 in their 20 overs.
Bangladesh looked good during the powerplay overs as Mushida Khatun scored 30 off 26 balls, and then Nigar Sultana scored 35 off 26 balls.
Once they were dismissed though, the chase was derailed and wickets fell regularly as the asking rate climbed over ten.
With 22 required off the last over and just three wickets in hand, the match was well and truly over.
Poonam Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for India taking 3-18 in her four overs and was ably supported by Shikha Pandey who took 2-14 off her four overs.
Earlier, India scored 142-6 from their allotted 20 overs with contributions from Shefali Verma and Jemima Rodrigues scoring 39 and 34 runs respectively.
But the Bangladesh bowlers chipped away with wickets regularly in the middle part of the innings and had India at 113-6 after 16.5 overs.
However, from there Veda Krishnamurthy scored a quickfire 20 off just 11 balls in an innings that had four boundaries and ensured India put up a solid total.
For Bangladesh, Salma Khatun and Panna Ghosh took two wickets each but Jahanara Alam and Nahida Akter proved expensive, going at over eight runs an over.
The Tigresses are targeting a spot in the semis but they now must win their remaining games to ensure qualification from a tough group.
