Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope scored a brilliant century to help West Indies beat India by eight-wicket in the three-match one-day international opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium at Chennai on Sunday.
Hetmyer scored 139 runs while Hope made unbeaten 102 runs as the tourist reached 291-2 in 47.5 overs after restricting India to 287-8.

The West Indies got off to a poor start as they lost opener Sunil Ambris early in their chase of 288 runs in the first ODI against India on Sunday. After that, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer showed great maturity and batted cautiously. Hope rotated the strike, while Hetmyer batted more aggressively to rebuild the visitors' innings.
They both added 218 runs for the second wicket, putting the West Indies in the commanding position.
Earlier, half-centuries by Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer and a late flourish from Kedar Jadhav saw India set a target of 288 for the West Indies.
