Afghanistan pacer Aftab Alam is banned for one year from both international and domestic cricket due to a code of conduct violation at the 2019 World Cup.  The decision was made by Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) disciplinary committee after an investigation.

On June 27, Aftab was removed from the Afghan squad due to exceptional circumstances. Later it was found that he was sent home because of serious misbehavior with a woman at the Southampton team hotel.

This incident took place on June 22 when Afghanistan lost to India by 11 runs.  He was also absent in the ICC anti-corruption unit meeting the next day, that’s why Afghan coach Phil Simmons suspended him for two matches.

Aftab also caused trouble in the India-Pakistan match on June 16.  He turned up at the game unannounced and requested VIP access for himself and his friends. He made his way to one of the hospitality rooms and then refused to leave.  When security was summoned, his friends left but Alam stayed. Eventually, however, he was removed.

Aftab picked up three wickets in four matches for Afghanistan in the World cup. Afghanistan finished at the bottom of the point table with no win beside their name.
