West Indies hard hitter batsman Carlos Brathwaite has expressed his heartbreak after he failed to take Windies past the finishing line. It was a nail-biting contest against New Zealand, West Indies were 164-7 at one stage after that Brathwaite storm started. He battled on with the tail-enders and picked up his century. He brought the West Indies so close to the finishing line, West Indies needed just six runs from seven balls.

Then the unfortunate thing happened Brathwaite tried to hit Jimmy Neeham for six over the long on, he thought he had struck it well enough, but it was not meant to be. Trent Boult caught the ball on the boundary line and ended the dream for the West Indies. After the match, Brathwaite talked about that heartbreak in the press conference.
"I thought I had enough bat on it," said Brathwaite.
Brathwaite also praised Boult by saying, he is one of the best fielders in the World. He took his [ Brathwaite’s ] spectacular catch on the boundary.
"Unfortunately it didn't. Also, it went to probably one of the better fielders in the world as well. So, yeah, it is what is. A game of margins. One or two yards more, we could be victorious." added Brathwaite.
It has been a World Cup of ups and downs to Brathwaite. He was dropped from the Windies squad in the game against Bangladesh because of poor form, he got into the team against New Zealand just because of Andre Russel’s injury. But Brathwaite never stopped working, he believes this performance is a result of his hard work and determination.
"I never stopped working, I kept working hard. It's great to see hard work pay off. At the end of the day, it is a century in a losing cause, which is bittersweet." Said Brathwaite.
After winning just one match in their six World Cup encounters West Indies semi-final dream is over. And now the rest of the games are a matter of pride for the Windies. West Indies will play India in their last match June 27.
