Who doesn’t know Virat Kohli? He is the current Indian captain and most gifted batsman of this era. Fastest batsman to score 10000 runs in ODI and 10th most famous athlete in the World. But if Kohli didn’t play cricket, he would have made a great astrologer. Because Kohli predicted the outcome of the World Cup, even before the World Cup started.

Before the start of the World Cup there was so much talk about high scoring matches. Some people said Cricket will see its first 500 runs in this World Cup. But Kohli predicted that at the back end of the tournament it will difficult to score even half of 500. As the pitches get used and deteriorate it becomes harder for the batsman to score runs.

"England seem obsessed with getting to 500 before anyone else and there is a lot of talk about someone doing it at this tournament," Kohli said at the ICC's captain's media day.

"But at a World Cup, things are totally different. As the tournament goes on, scoring will become harder and pitches will deteriorate.” Kohli added.

"If a side bats first and gets 260 or 270, then that will be hard to chase. I promise you, you will see 250 defended in this tournament.”

"Chasing those totals will be almost as hard as chasing a 360 or 370 outside of a World Cup. Not all teams will win matches early on and some won't be in good positions.” He concluded.

And Kohli has proven absolutely correct. Sri Lanka scored just 232 runs against England batting first in the 27th World Cup match and defended that total successfully with the help of a Lasith Malinga master class. Sri Lanka won the match by 20 runs. In the very next match, India scored just 224 runs batting first, and they also defended that total successfully, they beat Afghanistan by 11 runs. Mohammad Shami picked up the first hattrick of the World Cup in that match.

But in the first half of the World Cup, we have seen some high scoring World Cup matches. In Australia- Bangladesh match we have seen total of 714 runs scored. England scored 397 runs against Afghanistan. But as the tournament goes deep, we may see some more low scoring thrillers. Keep your fingers crossed.
