Selector Habibul Bashar Sumon termed Bangladesh’s 88-run defeat to Ireland Wolves in the practice match as ‘frustrating’ one but refused to give it an importance, saying that the result of warm-up game doesn’t always reflect team’s proper strength.

Having said that, Bashar, also the former skipper of the country believed, a different Bangladesh will turn up in the match against West Indies on Tuesday, with which the Tigers will start their tri-nation series campaign.

“It’s definitely unexpected,” said Bashar about Bangladesh’s defeat in the practice game. “But it was just a practice game. Tomorrow’s game (against West Indies) will be important for us. It’s to see what we’ll do in that match. This is an important tournament for us before the World Cup. In the practice game, the team generally experiments with many things, what doesn’t work on always. That might happen in the practice game. The condition was tough, there was severe cold. So there is some problem to cope with the condition. But I am sure our game will be different in the tournament-proper.”

Bangladesh’s batting and bowling was not up to the mark in the practice game as well. While the bowlers apart from Shakib Al Hasan leaked run generously, most of the batsmen looked out-of-sort and jaded against the second string Ireland side.

The performance caused a headache but Bashar seemed to have unfazed by it.

“May be the team management wants to watch the bowling. In the practice game, normally the bowlers don’t bowl with full intense. That might happen and therefore it looked unexpected,” Bashar revealed.

“It’s important for the batsmen to be amongst runs. But there is nothing to be worried with the batsmen’s performance. They might not bat as it was expected but the wicket of the tri-nation tournament will be different. I don’t think we have any necessity to discuss with those issues such elaborately,” Bashar remarked.

However Bashar predicted a high-scoring game in the match against West Indies.

“The ground of the Ireland is comparatively smaller. As we observed last year, all of the match was high-scoring because of the size of the ground. West Indies are a good side with excellent batting unit. It will be tough game for us,” he said.

Bashar said with the match against West Indies the team will get the idea how high-scoring the World Cup game will be.

“As we are predicting the World Cup games will be high-scoring, we’ll get a glimpse of it here in the match against West Indies,” Bashar concluded.
