After a lot of controversies, all of Zimbabwe’s senior cricketers have finally returned to the team and it appears that they will have to make up for their absence as it has cost their team a lot in the recent past.

Though Sean Williams did well in the first ODI against Bangladesh, picking up a fifty, the rest of the seniors could not do justice to the faith shown on them.

However, the Zimbabwe head coach, Lalchand Rajput, is hopeful of a big score in the upcoming games and the likes of Hamilton Masakadza and Brandon Taylor will definitely be instrumental in this regard.

“The senior players have to take responsibility. Masakadza got a hundred in the practice game so hopefully he can convert [the form] into the ODIs. Brandon Taylor is getting starts so hopefully a big score will come. I am sure they also feel they have to get a big score. It is coming, I am sure it is coming very soon,” he said.

The top five batters of the Zimbabwean side accumulated just 102 runs against a 272-run target in the series-opener. The Zimbabwe head-coach is well aware that the crucial knocks will have to come from the top if his side really wants to break the losing streak. He also praised Cephas Zhuwao for going all guns blazing against the Tigers at the beginning and credited Kyle Jarvis and William’s efforts for putting up a late rescue act that kept the opponents from bundling them out.

“If you look at the last game, we should have batted better. The top five has to take the responsibility and if one batsman gets a big score, I think we will definitely give a run for money. I am really happy we gave a good fight in spite of the position. Williams and Jarvis really batted well. Cephas gave a good start but there are areas where we have to work very hard. The key area is the top five,” said Rajput.
