Soumya determined to remain in the T20 side

Soumya became a regular opener for the team in limited-over formats after a series of impressive displays in 2015. He was dropped from the ODI squad before the tri-nation series this year for his disappointing performance in the tour of South Africa. However, he has been consistent with the bat in the shortest format of international cricket and wants to maintain that in future. In his last six T20I innings, Soumya Sarkar has scored 235 runs at an average of 39 and a strike rate over 150.

He reportedly said, “If I can keep performing like I did in the last few matches then I will be able to bat with confidence. I want to keep my approach.
“I am not thinking in that way as if I had thought like that then things could have been different before as well. I am not thinking like that. I have two T20 matches to look forward to and I will try to perform so that I can at least remain in the T20 side.”
According to the left-handed batsman, the Tigers should focus on the upcoming matches rather than thinking about their previous defeats. Moreover, he thinks that the inclusion of new faces in the squad will actually help them to not being bothered by the past.
Soumya said, “If you come to T20 still thinking of the ODIs and the Tests then, of course, it will have an effect. If you think about the T20 format where we have lots of new faces in the side, who did not feature in the ODIs and the T20s, I don’t think they will be bothered about what happened in the Tests and ODIs.”
