Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin said that he is disappointed that Tigers have gone behind newest Test member Afghanistan in the ICC Test ranking.

Bangladesh has fallen behind Afghanistan in the ICC Men's Test Team rankings and into 10th place following the annual update carried out on Friday, which also eliminates results from 2016-17.

‘’We always want to improve in Test ranking. We don’t play well in abroad, which has always been a reason but losing against Afghanistan at home, was a very bad performance,’’ said Minhajul.

‘’So falling behind (by rating point) in this ranking is definitely disappointing but we have a chance to overcome this. We had many opportunities to play some Test matches this year but Coronavirus put it in halt,’’ he said adding that they had got some momentum lately by earning win over Zimbabwe.

‘’We were losing consistently but then suddenly we won the match but we failed to keep the momentum,’’ said Minhajul.

In the latest update, that rates all matches played since May 2019 at 100 percent and those of the previous two years at 50 percent, Australia (116) have taken over from India as the top-ranked side in the MRF Tyres ICC Men's Test Team Rankings with New Zealand (115) remaining in second place.

India are now third with 114 points. India have yielded the top spot for the first time since October 2016. This is largely because India had won 12 Tests and lost just one Test in 2016-17, the records of which were removed in the latest update.

The Tigers lost to Afghanistan in a one-off Test at home in September by a big margin of 224 runs and that allowed the newest member in the Test arena to leapfrog Bangladesh into ninth place with 57 points during a time where cricket has come to a stop due to the coronavirus pandemic. The annual update states that Afghanistan and Ireland does not figure in the table as they have not played enough matches.
